Interview with Michaella by Yasmin K. Hejduk

You studied fine arts, working now in your own gallery and also in film production, how do you see the link between art and movies?
”I think they have much in common, primarily since both mediums represent visual storytelling, emotion, and exploration. I've been close to film since childhood—I originally wanted to be an actress. I wanted to be many things, but it took a lot of ups and downs to find my way to art and stay there. I enjoy the balance of changing environments; if that makes sense, I can't stay in one place and be one thing.”

We shot this little film as a homage to French Cinema, drifting through scenes in Prague, what inspires you in the city?

“That's a difficult question; I find inspiration even in the details—I am very observant. When it comes to Prague, I love the city centre, where I also live, and the hustle and bustle. There's always something happening; silence sometimes makes me uneasy. I have my routine, my favourite cinema that I like to go to, a bookstore where they know me, and restaurants and cafes I frequent. It's more about the relationship with the place and the people I meet there—it's a kind of connection.”

What do you consider as an essential element in style?
”I don't think I have any essential element in style, it changes a lot—I'm fluid. Currently, it's a silk scarf.”

How would you like to spend your favourite day?

”Lying in the park with a book, just being and reading, then writing, going to an exhibition, having good food and wine, and going to my favorite cinema. That's usually my Sunday. Ending the week in the best way possible.”
